For many of us\, somewhere beneath the goals\, plans\, and ambitions is a simple hope: we all would like to be happier. \nLast week\, Tabitha Blanski invited us into “the space between”—the often messy\, meaningful stretch between wanting something and making it real. This week\, we’ll build on that conversation by asking what helps us move toward a happier life along the way. \nWe’ll explore happiness as a direction we travel and a practice we can develop. What roles do enjoyment\, satisfaction\, and purpose play? How might small\, repeated choices help us build more of the life we want\, even while some things remain unfinished or outside our control? \nThere’ll be room for humor and honest reflection. We’ll consider how our actions can sometimes lead the way and we’ll leave with a practical invitation to choose one small practice that makes a good life more tangible this week. \nMusic: Molly                                  Meditation: Ty  Papke URL:https://c3westmichigan.org/event/sunday-gathering-18/ LOCATION:Central Park Place\, Mackinaw Ballroom\, 421 Columbus Ave\, Grand Haven\, MI\, 49417\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://c3westmichigan.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Gathering-10-18-26.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="C3 Front Desk":MAILTO:frontdesk@c3westmichigan.org END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Detroit:20261017T120000 DTEND;TZID=America/Detroit:20261017T130000 DTSTAMP:20261002T170413Z CREATED:20261002T170413Z LAST-MODIFIED:20261002T170413Z UID:14954-1792238400-1792242000@c3westmichigan.org SUMMARY:Vigil for Peace and Justice DESCRIPTION:Join our Vigil for Peace and Justice every Saturday from noon–1:00 p.m. along Washington Avenue at Central Park. It’s undeniably convenient. But this convenience has a cost. Behind the screen are unseen workers labeling data\, artists whose life’s work feeds training systems\, and communities bearing the environmental weight of massive data centers. \nIn our final Empire of Screens talk\, Brad puts on his futurist hat and looks ahead to offer some informed predictions about what might come next. While some possibilities are unsettling\, others point to a surprisingly hopeful countercurrent: as synthetic content floods our feeds\, work with a visible human touch will only become more valuable. We’ll discuss why AI literacy is an essential skill right now\, even for those of us who choose not to use it. \nWe’ll close the series with a practical rule of life—a values-based guide to navigating these powerful tools while protecting our human capacity to question\, create\, slow down\, and care for one another. \nMusic: Josh Rose         Meditation: Charlotte Rozich \n\nUnable to Attend? – You can catch the gathering Live on our Facebook beginning at 10am and view our speaker and meditation recordings later on our Youtube Page URL:https://c3westmichigan.org/event/sunday-gathering-16/ LOCATION:Central Park Place\, Mackinaw Ballroom\, 421 Columbus Ave\, Grand Haven\, MI\, 49417\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://c3westmichigan.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Gathering-10-2-26.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="C3 Front Desk":MAILTO:frontdesk@c3westmichigan.org END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Detroit:20261003T120000 DTEND;TZID=America/Detroit:20261003T130000 DTSTAMP:20260905T025157Z CREATED:20260905T025157Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260905T025157Z UID:14827-1791028800-1791032400@c3westmichigan.org SUMMARY:Vigil for Peace and Justice DESCRIPTION:Join our Vigil for Peace and Justice every Saturday from noon–1:00 p.m. along Washington Avenue at Central Park. They challenged familiar ideas about musical skill\, authentic sound\, and what counted as a “real” instrument. Over time\, musicians embraced and made those tools their own\, opening up entire genres and new possibilities for expression. \nGenerative AI brings a different shift. Beyond changing the sounds musicians make\, AI can now generate entire songs and imitate familiar voices\, muddying our understanding of who is creating and whose work makes that creation possible. \nThis week\, guitarist\, composer\, and producer Eli Kahn joins Brad for a conversation about music\, creativity\, and the humans behind the sound. Drawing on Eli’s experience with looping\, layering\, and improvisation\, we’ll explore the boundaries between creative tool\, collaborator\, and replacement. The technology is moving fast. Join us as we consider what role a human in the loop plays in our changing creative world. \nMusic: Eli Kahn                     Meditation: Bob Kleinheksel \n\nUnable to Attend? – You can catch the gathering Live on our Facebook beginning at 10am and view our speaker and meditation recordings later on our Youtube Page URL:https://c3westmichigan.org/event/sunday-gathering-15/ LOCATION:Central Park Place\, Mackinaw Ballroom\, 421 Columbus Ave\, Grand Haven\, MI\, 49417\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://c3westmichigan.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Gathering-09-27-26.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="C3 Front Desk":MAILTO:frontdesk@c3westmichigan.org END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Detroit:20260926T120000 DTEND;TZID=America/Detroit:20260926T130000 DTSTAMP:20260905T025008Z CREATED:20260905T025008Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260905T025008Z UID:14825-1790424000-1790427600@c3westmichigan.org SUMMARY:Vigil for Peace and Justice DESCRIPTION:Join our Vigil for Peace and Justice every Saturday from noon–1:00 p.m. along Washington Avenue at Central Park. Depending on who is speaking and when\, AI may soon create so much abundance that jobs become optional and money loses relevance\, or pose existential risks we barely know how to comprehend. \nThis week in Empire of Screens\, we’ll explore three useful perspectives that may help us make sense of the confusion. We’ll look at AI as part of humanity’s long history of knowledge management\, ask whether thinking of AI as an imperfect knowledge worker can teach us something useful\, and consider what it takes to build more trustworthy systems around a technology that may never be perfectly reliable\, much like the humans who use it. The goal is not to settle the big questions about AI\, but to offer a few useful ways of thinking about knowledge\, fallibility\, verification\, and trust as machines increasingly become part of how we know and work. \nMusic: Sarah VE                       Meditation: Beth Buelow \n\nUnable to Attend? – You can catch the gathering Live on our Facebook beginning at 10am and view our speaker and meditation recordings later on our Youtube Page URL:https://c3westmichigan.org/event/sunday-gathering-10/ LOCATION:Central Park Place\, Mackinaw Ballroom\, 421 Columbus Ave\, Grand Haven\, MI\, 49417\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://c3westmichigan.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Gathering-09-20-26.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="C3 Front Desk":MAILTO:frontdesk@c3westmichigan.org END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Detroit:20260919T120000 DTEND;TZID=America/Detroit:20260919T130000 DTSTAMP:20260905T024900Z CREATED:20260905T024900Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260905T024900Z UID:14823-1789819200-1789822800@c3westmichigan.org SUMMARY:Vigil for Peace and Justice DESCRIPTION:Join our Vigil for Peace and Justice every Saturday from noon–1:00 p.m. along Washington Avenue at Central Park. DESCRIPTION:Core Teacher Michael DeWilde is back this week as we continue the series\, Empire of Screens Part II. \nWe’ll look at some of the arguments – and evidence – for and against the notion that certain AI systems could be\, or become\, “conscious.”  How might that even be possible?  What would it look like?
