For this first Sunday in February, C3 Teacher Kent Dobson begins to re-examine our value of Diversity: We affirm all people and embrace all genders, sexual orientations, and ethnicities in our series Be of Value.
If you weren’t able to join us in person at the Grand Haven Community Center or via the C3 Facebook livestream last week, it’s well worth your time to watch the teaching video, the meditation, and the music. Our common humanity and the essence of community were clearly felt and evidenced in that no one wanted to leave after the Gathering, but wanted to remain within the embrace of the community.
We’re looking forward to Jonas Dobson’s debut as musician at C3 this week. Jonas is 17 and has been playing the piano for about three years. He would like to pursue music production after high school. You might remember that he played an impromptu piece for us one Sunday a couple years ago when our scheduled musician didn’t make it. He is Kent’s son.

C3 Annual Meeting This Sunday
Don’t miss the Annual Community Meeting this Sunday, February 6, following the Gathering. We typically give the community a report on the state of things, vote on acceptance of a budget for the year, vote on new Trustees for the board, affirm membership, and happily recognize one person’s extraordinary contributions with the Phil Koster Meritorious Service award.
We’re not quite back to the potluck part of the annual get-together, but we will come together, contribute and share in the business of the community.
It is essential that we achieve a quorum to accomplish the annual meeting business. Absentee ballots and proxy forms for Board of Trustees election must be in by Friday, February 4, and you can still ask for one to be emailed to you by sending a request to Jeff but you’d have to return it right away! You must be a member to vote for the Trustees and on any motions presented.
We’ve made it another year. Come and see what the future now holds.
Charity McMaster
Chair, C3 Board of Trustees
Twitter Log In
Can you help with our C3 Twitter log in? The account is connected to a personal email address instead of the Front Desk email address. Office manager, Jeff Baldus, has searched the office records and does not have the setup email address. In order to reset the password and gain access to the account we need that email address! Contact Tom Edwards or Annie Wassmann with any leads. Thanks for your help!
Week 3@C3 for February: Celebrating 25 Years of Neighbor Helping Neighbor
The People Center has been serving neighbors since June 4, 1996. In times of emergency or uncertainty, The People Center responds with food, clothing, transitional housing, and access to other area resources. C3 predecessor, Christ Community Church, was instrumental in the establishment of The People Center. Learn more about The People Center here.
The People Center is our February recipient for Week 3@C3. On February 6, 13, and 20, we will collect the following items for The Pantry at The People Center.
Household Supplies:
toilet paper
paper towels
laundry soap
household cleaners
Personal Supplies:
shampoo
toothpaste and toothbrushes
bar soap
feminine hygiene products
diapers – all sizes
Volunteer Opportunity at The People Center
The need for volunteers to sort, organize, and hang clothing donations is still significant. There are usually six volunteers a week for this task, but there are only three now, who will all be gone for the month of February. Do you have a couple C3 (or other) friends who might like to join you in this task a few hours a week—especially for February? One, two, or three people can work at a time, typically once a week for about two hours. This position does not entail working with the guests (although a guest may be “shopping” while you are working). Contact Karen Reenders to volunteer.
CCD Library Volunteers Are Welcome!
Being a consistent, caring presence is important to children! A number of C3 members currently volunteer for the Coalition for Community Development in the library at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System. Talk with Char Kole (elementary level) or Chrys Moelter-Gray (middle and high school level) to get further information or to volunteer.

C3 Men’s Group — Now Meeting by Zoom
With most members out of town during the winter months, the C3 Men’s Group has resumed meeting via Zoom on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. To join via the Zoom link, contact Phil Koster.
C3 and Friends Book Discussion Group
Please note: There will be no C3 Book Club meeting in February! But you do have an assignment that is due when the C3 and Friends Book Discussion Group meets via Zoom on Tuesday, March 15, to select the stellar books to be read and discussed for 2022. Click here to read the attached document about the book selection procedure.

Momentum Center is looking for help. Maybe you can lend a hand.
There is need for volunteers in several roles at both locations—Grand Haven and Holland, from Donut Runner to Staff Support to Instructor and beyond! Click here for a list of volunteer positions, with links to a more detailed description of each position, and contact information to ask questions or volunteer. Note that one qualification for each position listed is “social conscience and a desire for a more peaceful and just world.” Who among us doesn’t fit that qualification?
Civil Rights Road Trip
The Momentum Center invites you to join them in a civil rights journey from April 18-21, 2022. The purpose of this cultural immersion trip is to open our eyes to the truths about racial injustices in America and commit to being anti-racists. Along the way, we will see indisputable evidence of horrific hatred and of great courage. We will travel via bus from Grand Haven, MI, to Birmingham and Montgomery, AL, as well as a stop in Memphis, TN. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip. A few C3 members have already signed up for the trip. Would YOU like to explore important places in the history of the Civil Rights with others who share the desire to be anti-racist? Click here for information about the itinerary, places to be visited, costs, and registration.
