Our Sunday Gathering Team leader Leslie Newman will be our teacher this week! In our series The Great Questions, Leslie poses a question apropos for these times, as well as times past: Are exile and renewal inevitable parts of our human condition?
Kate Pillsbury has devoted most of her life to music, including a decade and counting as co-lead singer/guitarist for the band The Crane Wives. Having written hundreds of unreleased songs, her current focus is on publishing a body of solo work. Maybe we’ll hear some new songs from her this week!

🆕 New Meeting Place for C3 Men’s Group

C3 Book Club and Friends
Our next meeting is August 9 at 7:00 p.m., a one-week postponement from the usual first Tuesday meeting, due to the Coast Guard Festival and parking problems. Also, Joyce is leading the discussion, and since the weather tends to be favorable in August, Joyce has offered to host us on her porch. Our book is The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray. This is the remarkable, little-known story of Belle da Costa Greene, J. P. Morgan’s personal librarian, who became one of the most powerful women in New York, despite the dangerous secret she kept in order to make her dreams come true.

🆕 Diatribe Event Saturday Evening in Muskegon Heights
The Diatribe conducts summer programming for kids in Muskegon Heights. Their Final Reading presentation will take place at Pathfinders, located at Temple United Methodist Church, 2500 Jefferson Street, Muskegon Heights, just south of the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy, on Saturday, July 23, 7:00–9:00 p.m. The program is free to attend. Linda Palter is a native of Brooklyn and Long Island, NY. She has held way too many jobs, including but not limited to, park naturalist, Peace Corps volunteer (Guatemala), ESL instructor (Japan), and chiropractor. She moved to Muskegon in 1995, where she lives with her spouse and two dogs. She enjoys a variety of crafts as hobbies, but she is a master of none of them.
Ruth and Max Bloomquist have been making music together for more than 45 years. Ruth’s award-winning abilities as a songwriter and singer are accented by Max’s harmony and touch on the upright bass. With influences of folk, bluegrass, and country, they have created a heart-touching, audience-pleasing acoustic Americana that is all their own. Ruth’s trademark rich alto is unmistakable, and her songs evoke images and emotions common to us all.
