Thank you for signing up for the April 22 Adopt-A-Highway pick up.
The weather is borderline for tomorrow but we would still like to try, mainly to get it done and avoid having to do it after Talk Back on Sunday. We will meet you in the Central Park Place parking lot at 10:00 a.m. 🤞
Enclosed is a map that identifies C3’s two mile cleanup assignment — both the east & west sides of route 31, north of Grand Haven. It further dissects the route into four relatively equal one mile sections, with E. Pontaluna Road cutting through the center.
Volunteers assigned to Sections 1 and 2 (west side of Route 31) should exit the Highway at Sternberg WEST and then re-enter the highway at Route 31 South.
You have been assigned to one of the sections 1-4. To reduce the time it takes to walk the section, you have also been assigned to park and start at either the northern or southern “borderline” of the section. North groups will walk southward and south groups walk northward. You will meet your colleagues in the center of your section after only a one half mile of cleanup for all volunteers. Look for signs (photo attached) that helps identify the sections, please park your car behind those signs.
For safety sake, we will not be cleaning the land inside on and off ramps, or any flooded ditches. Please don’t enter a flooded ditch (and there are many due to our wet spring). MDOT has summer pick up dates and, if necessary, we will get a skeleton crew to clean up the ditches then.
MDOT has supplied us with safety vests and trash bags. Dress safely and warmly! Wear close-toed shoes, gloves and hats. Tools can be helpful to pick up trash: grabbers or even a nail on the bottom of a stick. A small wastebasket, box or bucket may be more comfortable to put trash in initially and then transfer to larger plastic bag.
