Lead Teacher Brad Ruggles closes 2024 with his teaching The Wisdom of Winter: The Seed Beneath the Snow. With the New Year just ahead, many of us may be considering resolutions. While there’s nothing wrong setting goals, we’ll be taking a contemplative approach by focusing instead on setting an intention. A resolution is often a firm decision with a clear goal (exercising more, drinking less, starting a new habit). They tend to be firm decisions to do or not do something with little wiggle room. We either stick to them or we fail, which is why most of our resolutions are distant memories by February (along with that unused gym membership and early morning wake-up). 🏋🏻‍♀️⏰ An intention, on the other hand, is a practice that invites us to be present. It’s open-ended, allowing space for growth and grace. Intentions align us with our values rather than pushing us toward a fixed destination. Unlike a resolution, which is about setting a specific goal, an intention is more like a compass—guiding us through the unknown with openness and clarity. We’ll explore some practical tips for setting an intention by tapping into the sacred wisdom of stillness and reflection, aligning ourselves with the energy of renewal that comes with winter. No pressure, just presence. 🙏🏼 Our musical year closes with The Rebel Eves, while Charity McMaster offers the meditation at our last C3 Gathering this year.

🆕  Mindful Living

Many of us are familiar with the concept of mindfulness and what it means to be mindful, but how do we make it an intentional practice? Mindfulness practice involves purposefully paying attention to the present moment and cultivating a nonjudgmental, compassionate awareness of our thoughts, our emotions, our senses, and the world around us.

We are in the early stages of developing a series of sessions entitled Mindful Living, meeting once a month on a weekday evening. If you would like to learn more about this contemplative practice, please leave your contact information on the signup sheet at the membership table. Knowing how many folks are interested at this stage will help inform our search for a regular meeting space. Stay tuned for more information!

Thinking Ahead! In Case of a Weather Emergency!

This weekend is looking like decent weather, but I’d like to let you know our process for inclement weather. The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors with the Executive Director will determine if we will cancel the in-person Sunday Gathering. Our goal will be to make the determination by late Saturday afternoon. If the Gathering is canceled, we will send an email, post a notice on Facebook and Instagram, and contact the following media: WAWL (Grand Haven radio), and these TV stations WZZM, WOOD, and Fox 17.
